On Thursday afternoon, I had a phycology class in a large lecture theater. In the previous classes, I found many native Americans, so I wanted to take a chance to ask a American randomly and saw whether he or she is a UC Berkeley student. I was lucky that the first person I asked was exactly a student from UC Berkeley.
His name is Joel and he comes from Reno of Nevada. He just has spent his freshman life in UC Berkeley and his major is biochemistry. It is no wonder that he chooses psychology class, he has a professional knowledge. And then I asked him about the university. He said that he loved the idea of UC Berkeley, its motto was“let there be light”. When I heard this, a word from bible occurred to me “And God said, let there be light, and there was light.” It sounded very sacred. He also said that he loved the scientific way of running school and the beautiful campus. He said UC Berkeley was his favorite school. So I asked him how hard was it for him to get admitted to this school, he said it was really a tough process which caused his shortsightedness.
About the school, he likes the campus most, and he likes large classes ,he thinks large class is more interesting. After class, he usually spends 3 hours on doing homework everyday, he is really hardworking. And in spare time, he likes hanging out in the Asian Ghetto on the campus, it is a food court on the south side of campus. It can be seen that he is interesting at Asian culture.
I asked him a few additional questions. Why did not he go home for summer holiday? He said he had had gone back home, but he thought campus life was more interesting and he wanted to take class, so he went back to school several days after he went home. And his home is very close to UC Berkeley, it only takes him 3 hours to go home. He can go home at any time he likes. Also I think he looks like young Steve Jobs, so I said “hope you become another great person like Jobs in your own field”.
It is a pity that he left quickly and I forgot to take a photo of him.
