On Saturday I went out for lunch with my relatives. We had a young waitress and my relatives know her, fortunately she was a UC Berkeley student!
Her name is Emily she lives in Berkeley with her family and grandparents (who own the restaurant). She just fished her freshman year in Chemical Engineering and she loves it. She wanted to become a Berkeley student because she and her family thought Berkeley is one of the best universities in California, moreover it is close to their home, her older brothers just graduated from Berkeley and Emily loves the campus. During high school she had already decided or wished to go to Berkeley. She said it was not too hard to get admitted but of course not easy. She loves about this school how friendly and helpful everyone is. And I agree with that! "You can meet people from all over the world and become good friends with them." That's what she also loves about Berkeley. She just became friends with a girl from France last semester and just came back from visiting her. (I think this is just great!) What she doesn't like is the work or homework and the time it takes, usually about 3 hours per day, but she knew that before and she loves her subjects. So it just sounded perfect to me.
Where her favorite place on campus is was actually the most difficult question to answer for her, because she loves most of the places on campus. But one of her favorite places is the Hearst Mining Circle. I think I try to find that place during next week, just to see how it looks like! I really enjoyed talking with her, and after her work we walked a little bit around had a nice talk about different things, in the evening she even took me with her to a party.
Berkeley students seem to be really openminded and I'm really thankful for this interview because now I have a new friend! :-)
