Hazel is poor educated man and he likes to talk with others. He likes to ask someone a question, but he doesn't like to be asked a question about himself. His heart is described as "museum desert", which means he doesn't know so much about himself.
On the other hand, Doc is described as an intelligent man. He can answer any question, and sometimes he includes humor in his answer.
In this chapter, we can see the other person's name, Henri the painter. He has been building his boat for about 7 years. Every time he finishes the boat-building, he changes it completely and starts the building again. Hazel says he is crazy, but Doc says he isn't. The explanation by Doc is appropriate, but Hazel still regards him as a crazy man.
