When I entered the restaurant, a female server greeted me with joy. Her pronunciation sounded like the way my mother speaks English. I responded with Taiwanese mandarin and she smiled at me, which made me feel that I'm home! Then I got a familiar menu with a list of names of food written in Chinese. I decided to order Fried rice for my lunch because it just cost me seven dollars.
Before my fried rice came, a bowl of dumpling soup was sent to my table. This is a type of traditional soup in Taiwan.
So tasty! It is so exciting to eat my favorite food away from home. I started expecting my fried rice. As my expectation, fried rice made me satisfied. I felt very satisfied because everything I had in this restaurant were beyond my expectation. When I was having my lunch, I liked to observe how Americans reacted to Asian food when they ate it. I wondered if they really know how it tasted or not, just like the salad is insipid to me. Observing different cultures around is always interesting.
Eating outside in the USA is expensive with no income. Because of this, I made up my mind to cook for myself every day. I went to SAFEWAY to buy some ingredients for cooking. Walking to SAFEWAY took me about twenty minutes. I bought some meat and vegetables. The price of ingredient was acceptable when it compared to the price of eating outside.
I don't have much experience and knowledge about how to cook. I only have some abstract images of cooking by my mother. Although they look terrible, they still taste not bad. I learned a lot of things this weekend. I found a good restaurant near my apartment. I went to SAFEWAY for shopping for my cooking ingredients and I made these dishes for myself. Unlike other classmates, I chose to stay home and do some research on '' cooking'''.
