Grammar Question (Ashley)

I have a question about how to talk about the future. What is the difference between using "be going to" and using "will" to talk about the future?

When you use the expression of "be going to," you have already had a plan about something that you want to do or it is very likely that you do something you want to do.

When you use the expression of "will," you have your intention to do something you want to do or you predict something.

Example Sentence 1: We are going to watch a baseball game tonight.
This sentence means they have already bought the tickets of the game and decided to watch it.

Example Sentence 2: We will watch a baseball game tonight.
This sentence means they haven't bought the tickets of the game yet and they haven't decided to watch the game yet, but they have their intention to watch it.
